Who Do You Believe?
By Judith Parker Harris | May 13, 2008
Headlines were full of disturbing news last week about medical findings that upended some of our health beliefs. I was affected by the findings that calcium and vitamin D may not prevent bone loss in post-menopausal women. Yikes! At last I had settled into taking one little pill two times a day that “might” help prevent bone loss. Now they weren’t sure. Then there was the news that a low fat diet may not prevent all the ailments we were told it might including breast cancer. Not a good week for women.
The bottom line for you, my block busters, is not to be discouraged by this news. The state of our health is in constant flux. Doctors and reserachers are coming up with new stuff every day. Some may affect you, some may not. The inportant thing is to have your own HEALTH PLAN and to follow it. I’m not talking about insurance, either althought that is important. I’m talking about your own plan for healthy living. That plan starts with a lot of common sense, listening to your own body, following a healthy diet that’s right for you, putting together a health team that includes medical and alternative resources, getting enough sleep, drinking plenty of water, not smoking and drinking in moderation only, and most importantly, taking charge of the one part of healing you can control — your thoughts and emotions.
Let’s face it. We all know when we have put on too many pounds. We also know that if we eat less, exercise more and cut out foods that are bad for us, we’ll lose weight. No magic there — just common sense. We all know when we’re not feeling well to get medical advice. Now we can also research that advice to our heart’s content on the internet. Then we can make our own decisions about what will work for us. In other words, you’ve got to lead your own healing team.
The answer to the question “Who Do You Believe?” is You believe yourself. Know your body, respect it and take care of it. Stop waiting for someone else to do it for you, because there are just too many conflicting opinions.
When I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 19985, the doctors told me there was nothing they could do and that I might spend the rest of my life in a wheel chair. If I had believed them, I might be in that wheelchair today. Instead, I’ve been symptom-fre since 1990. I led my own health team and found that I was BLOCKED by thoughts and emotions that were killing me. As I changed those thoughts and emotions, the symptoms of MS let go of me. I’ve been symptom free since 1990.
So, I would like you to think about this today. What thoughts and emotions are you holding inside that could be making you sick or could be sabotaging your success in life? What action can you take today that can strengthen your bones or improve your diet, or just make you feel better? Take an action everyday and you will not be at the mercy of the headlines. The conversations you have with your body are the most important conversations you will have in your life. For more on this topic, go to www.blockedtoblockbuster.com.
